Romans 3:25-26 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Since nothing humanity can do could resolve the sin problem, God provided the answer. God “put forward” Jesus as the means of atonement as a demonstration of his love for humanity. Jesus’ sacrifice was the only price that could redeem humanity from the power and control of sin. Paul indicates that this was God’s decision and not compelling. It was a matter of grace to give Jesus. God did this as a matter of love. God is just and his justice requires that sin be atoned for. This can happen only through a sacrifice. God is both the judge who requires atonement and the one who gives the gift that goes on the altar. God did not set up humanity for failure but has planned and provided the way for redemption to be made possible. All this must be received by faith. The gift is offered but has no value for a person until accepted. Upon reception, the gift becomes life transforming and provides hope for eternity.
