1 Corinthians 3:19-20
For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”
These verses are a caution to those who would rely on their own wisdom and strength. Even the smartest scientist knows but a minute fraction of God’s creation. We get in danger anytime we think we have God or God’s creation figured out. I think God wants us to study, learn, grow, and develop in our understanding of things. That is part of the gift of being human. But the danger is when we forget the One whom we are studying. God knows our thoughts and motives. The emptiness of the pursuit of knowledge surfaces when people realize that the problems they thought they had figured out, they actually don’t. Another virus or disease comes, or the old virus mutates and the medicines don’t work any more. Human knowledge only gets us so far. Any fixes are only temporary. We need to purpose a lasting change, which takes place in the human heart. This is where things really matter.
