1 Corinthians 15:48  As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.

Verse 48 makes further comparison between Adam and Christ and the type of life they bring. Our earthly existence will end in the same way it did for Adam, the first human. Because of his decision to disobey God, he (along with Eve) died. He was formed from dust, the basic elements of the earth. In Adam, we all die. New life is found in Christ. This new life is spiritual in nature and not limited to this earth. The man of heaven refers to the same concept as Philippians 2:6, “having the form of God.” Jesus as the Son of God is eternal but entered time and lived the same earthly existence we do. Upon his resurrection, he returned to his heavenly existence. We do not begin with a heavenly existence but will have this existence upon resurrection. Jesus opened the way for us to experience this, but we must make the decision now.
