1 Corinthians 6:14
And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.
How can we over come the sins and temptations we face? How can we find victory over sin? This verse gives the answer. We do it because the power of sin has already been conquered through resurrection power. There is victory in two ways. There is eschatological victory when we die or Jesus comes again. Paul will talk about this victory in ch. 15 and the resurrection body we will have. A second way is the victory we have now with bodies that are no longer slaves to sin but to righteousness, described in Romans 6. Often the focus is on the resurrected body. But our fleshly bodies now are important to God. The focus in this part of 1 Corinthians 6 is on how we live in our bodies now. I think we Christians needs to think more deeply on how resurrection power influences how we live in our bodies now. If our bodies are redeemed and will someday be transformed, then we should take care of them better now, especially in regards to sexual matters. Our bodies belong to God and this should impact what we do in, for, and with our bodies. The choice remains ours to take advantage of God’s resources that come through the Holy Spirit. The open door to the body is the mind. Once again, when we take on the mind of Christ, it will affect how we live on a daily basis. The theology behind all this is important and crucially linked.
