Psalm 103:19
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
This verse clearly proclaims that God is sovereign over the universe. There is no question about God’s control. God does not co-exist with nature, as open theists argue. God is on the throne of heaven and from there rules over all creation. The place of this verse in the psalm is important. It comes directly after David writes about God’s salvation. Salvation depends upon God’s sovereignty. If God is not in control, then God is not savior. Open theism is a serious threat to the whole doctrine of salvation as described in this psalm. The One who rules over all things is the same who comes to us as Savior. Jesus as Lord and Savior is an important theme in Peter’s writings (2 Pet 1:11; 2:20; 3:2; 3:18). Jesus is the One by whom this salvation comes.
