1 Timothy 2:

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.

These verses remind me of my days at APNTS as professor of New Testament. A mediator brings two different people or groups together. Jesus did this. He brought reconciliation (2 Cor 5:17-21) between God and humanity. There are not many routes to heaven. Only one, and that is Jesus. Christianity is exclusive. This is a sharp contrast with the previous verses which show the universal love and grace of God. We have universal hope but limited means. As God’s people, there is no room for compromise. There are not many Gods or Lords but only one (1 Cor 8:1-4). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12).
