1 Corinthians 1:26

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.

I can identify with this verse. I come from an average family. My parents were not rich or famous but poor and humble. They worked hard their whole lives. They only had high school and trade school diplomas. God blessed me by giving me parents who loved Him the best they could. Both went to be with the Lord last year. I reflect almost every day on their lives. The awesome thing about the transforming power of God is that it does not depend on our background, upbringing, or education. God can use anyone and can change everyone. I think back on my call to ministry. I was a shy, quiet 15 year old youth, searching for meaning. I rarely spoke in front of people. My first sermon was with two other teens during a Sunday night youth service. It lasted a whole 10 minutes or less. God saw something in me that I did not see in myself. I feel a lot like the Corinthians. It does not matter our upbringing or talents. What does matter is our willingness in humility to be used by God. I pray that this humility will fall afresh in my life and reteach me what it means to be a servant of Christ.
