1 Corinthians 6:18
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
This is a highly perceptive statement that Paul makes. Sex has become an activity of empty pleasure and meaning. It is a momentary experience of euphoria. We as a society have been deceived and influenced by certain parts of the entertainment industry and those on the “left” of culture who push for homosexuality and gender confusion in schools and other places. The truth of God’s plan laid out in Genesis 2 has been lost since that point, but it has really become apparent in the last decade or two. The issues are not simple but the answer is. It is interesting to me that Paul talks about sinning against one’s body. If one’s body should belong to the Lord, then by doing something against God’s purpose and design for our bodies, we are sinning against the Lord as well. The first thing we must do is to understand God’s plan for our bodies. Then we must work at avoiding anything that goes against this plan. The answer comes in the next verse: our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. That means that our bodies are vessels of holiness, righteousness, justice, love, mercy, compassion, and all other attributes of God. If we do something that violates the law of Christ, which is the law of loving God with our whole being or loving other people, then we are not being good vessels of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our guide for daily living. By sinning against our bodies, we are violating the temples in which God desires to work out His will in the world.
