1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
These are two significant verses in this letter. They reveal a lot about how Christians should live. They reveal the motivation for Christian ethics. There are two key foundations in this verse. The first is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. We have already seen several times in our journey through this letter how important this concept is to Paul. The Holy Spirit is God’s presence speaking to our minds and motivating our hearts to walk in obedience to God in conformity to the mind of Christ. The Spirit is the most gracious gift we have as believers. It is mind boggling to think that the Almighty God Creator of the Universe is so loving that He lives within me and feels my essence with His essence. He does this so much that I become captivated by His holiness and seek to dwell in it through my worship.
The second foundation is the implied redemption of Christ, the price that was paid that we might be indwelled by the Holy Spirit. This is the highest price of all time. An unbeliever might view Jesus’ crucifixion as a foolish waste of a life. But the cross reveals the very power and wisdom of God. Since Jesus gave His life for us, and since we have the Holy Spirit within us, our response should be to live a life worthy of this gift. Act in a way that reveals to whom you belong. I wonder if Christians today thought about this on a daily basis if our behavior would be different; if we would make different choices about what we say, do
