1 Corinthians 9:19
Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.
Paul’s motive shows up again in this verse. This is how he will carry out his call. He would rather be a slave to win people than be a free person and win no one. I wonder if we have this reversed in our thinking, or at least in our actions. We want our freedoms, and as a result, few churches grow and few people bring others to Christ. Self often gets in the way to life in Christ. If we say we are in Christ and His followers, must must imitate Him in service to others. Is there any other option than what Paul gives here for Christ followers? If we are disciples of Christ, we should obey Him in our obedience to His law of love. If though Jesus frees us from sin, His love binds us to others in service. This love should not be a burden. Sometimes we allow love to be a burden. Why? Again, it is because of self. Humility must be in the background of following Paul’s example here.
