1 Corinthians 11:23-24
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
This simple acts symbolizes the most amazing event in history. We remember what Jesus has done for us. Bread is the source of life for many cultures. This might be wheat for bread or rice. I like many grains and have rice several times a week. The farmers are harvesting winter wheat this week around our home. I like it when a church uses fresh bread for the Lord’s Supper. I have had some ladies in some of my churches make it fresh so that it is still warm when we partake of it. The fresh bread is delicious and draws my mind to the joys that result from having Jesus as a part of my life. Stale or hard bread does not do much for helping me remember what Jesus has done. Jesus is the bread that satisfies our deepest hunger. Any other bread will be stale and leave our mouths dry and stomachs sour. He is also fresh, real, relevant, and present with us. The Lord’s Supper helps us experience His freshness each time we partake of it.
