1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again,not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
The reason we can love from a purified heart is that we have been changed, transformed, by God’s word. We have heard, received, and believed in the good news (“gospel”) of Jesus. We have studied how this message is expressed and how to live it out through reading the Bible. This message has brought us life. Jesus talked about being born again in John 3 in the conversation with Nicodemus. The way we are born again is through the Holy Spirit who transforms us into the likeness of Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:18). The word of the gospel plants a seed in our life when we hear about eternal life in Jesus. The Holy Spirit grows this seed through many ways: the witness of people, life’s circumstances, our own quiet thoughts and other ways. This seed sprouts into a new life.
