Hebrews 3:3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.

The author compares Jesus to Moses. Moses was one of the most significant persons of the Old Testament. There are several reasons for this. Moses was able to be in God’s presence at the burning bush, up on the mountain and in the tent of meeting. Moses was the one who received the special revelation of the law. He was the primary mediator between God and humans. He interceded for the people when they sinned. Interpreters have pointed out how he was a type for Christ. As great as Moses was, Christ is even greater. Christ is the builder of the house and Moses is the product of that building. Everything Moses did pointed to Christ who fulfills the law that Moses gave. Christ is the one who makes it possible for us to experience God’s glory. This is a key theme in 2 Corinthians 3:1-18. For the readers who may have been Jewish in background, this is a significant claim to make. It would have challenged them to see the Old Testament differently. The Old Testament points to Christ who fulfills all the longing of the Jews. He is the answer to their needs, just as he is the answer to our needs today. There are many things that take our attention away from God. We may consider these things great. But Jesus is even greater and deserves all our worship.
