Romans 1:18-19 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.

Romans describes two types of responses God gives to people. The preferred response to experience is God’s love (Romans 5:8). But God gives people the ability to choose to receive this love. When people reject God’s love, they experience the other response of God’s wrath. God’s wrath is redemptive during this life but becomes condemning in the life to come. God reveals wrath on godlessness and wickedness to wake people up about their sins. The problem is that people “suppress the truth” and harden themselves against God’s love. This comes about by rejecting the clear revelation of God. God has reached out to them in countless ways, but people follow after sin. They should know that there is a God. The evidence is indisputable. What clouds the vision is godlessness and wickedness, which are different ways to describe sin. It is sad that people follow the way of selfish desires and reject God. This is essentially what Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden by rejecting God’s simple command not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Are we following in this same path or do we see God at work around us and in us and acknowledge God’s sovereignty?
