Romans 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

Here is one of the big problems of the human condition: people refuse to acknowledge their sin and repent. They are stubborn and unrepentant. What causes this stubbornness? Part of the issue is that people have deceived themselves in their own thinking to reject any knowledge of God. Or, similarly, they fool themselves into thinking that they are right with God because they are following certain rituals or avoiding certain activities. But deep down, their hears are still corrupt and depraved. God’s response to this hypocrisy is wrath. God responds the same way with wrath to the bad sins of the Gentiles in ch. 1 and the subtle sins of the Jews in ch. 2. They may not see the results of God’s judgment until day of reckoning for all people “when his righteous judgment will be revealed.” This is the time of grace and repentance (2 Cor 6:2). We must examine ourselves and see if there is any wicked way in us for which we need to repent (Psalm 139:24).
