Romans 2:6-8 God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

What we do in this life matters. These verses must be taken in the context of what Paul has been writing. These verses are not about earning our way to heaven but our response to God in faith. Faith must always be shown in action. If we have faith and it leads us to glorify God and live in holiness, we will receive eternal life. If we make our life all about gaining and pleasing our sinful lusts, then we will experience the wrath of God. The fundamental choice is how we will respond to God’s grace. What direction is our life going? Is it going towards self, which will descend into sin because of a corrupt and depraved heart? Or, will it be faced towards God in humility and dependence upon God’s grace in Jesus Christ?
