Romans 8:31-32 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Paul begins to close out this section of his letter with a series of rhetorical questions that offer the readers a moment of introspection. The first question is generic and more of a transition statement. The second question gets to the heart of the issue: The Almighty God, creator of the universe, is on our side. If God calls us and purposes for us something, then it is a possibility. Those “against us” who try to persecute and hurt us are going against God’s purposes for us and will ultimately fail because of our victory through Jesus. Verse 32 reminds us of God’s love. God have up his Son for us because of love (Romans 5:8). This same love is available to us. God will give us “all things,” whatever we truly need to make it through the trials of this life. That does not mean we get what we want or that we will not suffer. But it does promise that we will be victorious. These verses help build our hope and strengthen our faith.
