Psalm 103:3-4:
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion
We often find ourselves in a pit of our own digging. We expose ourselves to spiritual diseases. God’s responses to our self-made problems is significant and transforming: forgiveness, healing, redemption, and exaltation. When one is in a pit, it is very difficult if not impossible to get one’s self out. We need someone to reach down, take our hand, and pull us up. Too often we will only reach that hand after we come to the end of our strength from our clawing and struggle. It is sad to see people who keep digging their pits when God’s hand is there to pull them out. God’s response is love and compassion. Will we take his hand?
