Psalm 103:6
The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
Sometimes this world gives us the raw deal, the short end of the stick. Oppression is an outcome of the selfishness of sin. Sin often and usually leaves victims. We often think of oppression in terms of social injustice within a political sphere. This is true, but there is a lot of oppression and injustice among families. One area where this is obvious but missed by politicians and many people is the oppression of the unborn. This verse is difficult to read in the context of abortion. Where is the justice? In some cases, the Lord’s justice will not be seen until the day of judgment. If we have anything to do with the oppression of the unborn, woe be unto us. The born children are also often abused and neglected. There is more that each of us could do in this regard but we get too comfortable. It may be that the Lord wants to work justice and righteousness through us. Are we willing to be his instruments of this in this world?
