1 Corinthians 3:11
For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
There is only one foundation upon which we can build our lives, our marriages, our families, and our ministries: Jesus Christ. Why is this so? I think the biggest reason is that it is in Christ that we find our true selves, nature, and destiny. Anything else is a weak counterfeit. Things of this world give promises that offer happiness and fulfillment. Many things in this world will bring happiness but not joy. Happiness is an emotion that comes and goes based on circumstances. Joy is an inner disposition that guides our lives. It is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit’s work in us, transforming us into Christ’s likeness. Building our lives on Jesus as Lord supreme brings purpose and peace. Jesus is the glue that holds life together. Those who have put Jesus first can testify to this. Those who reject Jesus cannot understand this and only laugh at it.
